This is rather startling. Apparently, a big area of the Earth's crust, in the Mid-Atlantic region, is simply missing, exposing, in effect, Gaia's "innards."
As I've said for years, I think scientists and explorers should spend money on exploring the interior of the Earth, rather than blasting off into near-space. There's so much to learn from within the interior of our precious planet.
